SHEPHERDS PIE – English Pastor Pie

On this occasion I bring for recipes a delicious English meat cake known as Shepherds Pie. A whole British classic. Based on the original recipe of the minced meat cake with some vegetables and herbs and covered with potato pure I omit or changed other ingredients such as red wine by white or aromatic herbs. And not for nothing. It is that when he gave me to make this recipe, neither I had nor I could buy at that time the original ingredients and I decided to tune it my way. The result was great. I haven tried the original British meat cake and I can compare but we liked this version a lot at home. A unique dish that, although it has enough ingredients, is not very complicated to do, or very slow. The truth is that it made us enjoy a lot and I will repeat it safe 🙂

Ingredients to make Shepherds Pie – English pastor cake:
250 grams of beef minced from veal
1 onion
1 carrot
5 mushrooms
1 Calabacin not very large
1 pinch of thyme powder
1 pinch of oregano powder
1 pinch of salt
1 pinch of ground black pepper
1 Pinch of cumin powder
2 tablespoons of tomato sauce (fried tomato)
1 tablespoon of sauce Perrins
1 jet of white wine for cooking
4 potatoes (about 500 grams)
40 grams of butter
1 egg yolk
5 tablespoons of milk (plus the one you ask)
1 handful of rallado parmesan cheese

Ingredients to make Shepherds Pie – English pastor cake:

1. To start making this English pastor cake or Shepherds Pie, we first cook the potatoes in a casserole with water and a little salt. When the holder is inserted when the fork is introduced without problem (about 20 minutes) we cast them and let cool, after which we will peel and reserve them.





2. After chopping all the vegetables of the British meat cake, we put some oil in a pan and put the onion to brown.





3. When the onion begins to be tender, we add the carrot.





4. When the vegetables are rather made, we add the meat, previously seasoned to taste and seasoned with cumin. We mix everything well.





5. We now add the fried tomato, the Perrins sauce and the aromatic herbs to taste. Mix and let a couple of minutes cook.





6. We then add the mushrooms. We stir and leave a few minutes.





7. Finally, we add the zucchini, we rectify salt if necessary and water the filling of the English meat generously with the wine. Mix and let cook over medium heat until all the liquid evaporates. Then we will remove from the heat and let cool.





8. While the filling of the Shepherds Pie is cooled, we put the potatoes with the egg yolk, butter and milk in a bowl. We salt and pepper and crush the potatoes. Finally, we go through the blender until a puree, adding the milk that is necessary so that it is not very thick and heavy.





9. When the filling of the pastor cake has cooled, we place it in a bowl suitable for the oven.





10. We cover the meat with the puree of potatoes and finally sprinkle the cheese. We put the English meat in the oven already hot at 200º C at a medium-high height, and let it bake for about 20 minutes, until it has a beautiful golden tone.
