Red Wine Torrijas Recipe

1 bread bar of the previous day (or more)
600 milliliters of red wine
1 lemon (the skin)
1 branch of cinnamon
250 grams of sugar (1¼ cups)
1 small glass of water

Ingredients to make red wine toast:

1. Prepare all ingredients to make wine toast. Remember that this same recipe can be done with red or white wine, although we have opted for red.





2. Pour the red wine into a saucepan with a small glass of water, some strips of lemon skin, 100 grams of sugar and a cinnamon branch. Let cook for 15 minutes over medium-high heat, turn off and let it cool.





3. Place the eggs in a bowl, add 1 tablespoon of sugar and throw them out well. In another bowl, put the red wine already cold, remove lemon skin and cinnamon branch.





4. Mix sugar and cinnamon powder on another dish to bounce the torrijas of red wine when they are made.



Trick: We have mixed 100 grams of sugar with 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.





5. Cut the slices of bread with an approximate thickness of 2 cm. Pass them first for red wine so that they are well impregnated, but without dripping. Then, pass them for the beaten egg.





6. Heat a pan with plenty of sunflower oil and, when hot, fry the wine toast in 2 or 3 batches to get them to brown well and do not stick to each other. Take them out and place them on a plate with kitchen paper to absorb excess oil.





7. Reboza the torrijas of red wine with the mixture of sugar and cinnamon and put them in a source to serve. If you have left over red wine, you can infuse it a little more so that it is like a syrup and serve it on the toast.
