Totopos recipe with cornmeal

Totopos with cornmeal are a typical recipe of Mexican cuisine that is an easy, practical and ideal dish to get out of the way when we receive unexpected visits. Ingredients to make totopes with cornmeal:

1. We begin to prepare this recipes of totopos for nachos by placing in a bowl the cups of cornmeal, the half teaspoon of salt and the cups of water. We mix everything until you get a mass of firm but moldable consistency.



Trick: We can add common wheat flour to the dough of homemade totopes if we do not have corn.

2. With the dough ready we will make small balls and let them stand for a moment, covered with a cloth.

3. Meanwhile, we heat a pan or pot in a very thick bottom, which we can moisturize with oil or a little butter. When you have temperature, we will flatten the dough balls to create disks or corn tortillas. We can use an empty bottle, a kneading roller or a flattener.

4. The cooking of corn tortillas is very fast and must be done on both sides of the discs. If we see that it inflates a little during cooking, we will crush with a spatula.

5. Once cooked, we will stack the tortillas and cover them with a cloth so that they do not lose that texture. From the tortillas we will also make homemade totopes, ideal for eating with guacamole or different Mexican sauces. To make corn totopes, we simply cut these cooked tortillas in triangular shapes and fry them in oil, although we can also toast them in the oven.

6. Once cut, we can consume the totos with cornmeal as if they were Nachos. You can season them with salt and pepper and lemon juice or test delicious cheese sauce for Nachos.
